My family and I booked a quick getaway to the Bahamas in honor of my brother—who’s based in Alaska—being able to get a few weeks of military leave. We booked a cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas, which sailed out of Miami to Coco Cay and Nassau, Bahamas. We spent a full day in Miami before leaving for our cruise. We spent the day catching up with my brother after not having seen him for two years. The next day, we embarked on our cruise and spent the first day exploring the ship. We sailed for a day and a half before arriving at Coco Cay, which is Royal Caribbean’s private island. It was honestly the perfect combination of everything a vacation should be. We went from relaxing on white sand beaches to racing down the tallest water slides in the Caribbean. I lay on a raft, floating in the crystal clear ocean, just taking in the beauty of the Bahamas. As the waves gently coasted my raft around, I took a moment to thank God as I felt incredibly blessed to be where I was in that moment. Miles and miles away from home with my family, enjoying our time.
The next day was spent in Nassau, Bahamas. We sailed to a private island, sailing pass mansions who house the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z, Dj Khaled, and Oprah to name a few. The private island had a lagoon with an aqua park and some water sport activities. On the opposite side was the most calm and serene little beach area. The water was so warm, it’s indescribable. The sand felt like oatmeal, one of my favorite parts of the Caribbean. We were blessed with sunny skies which led to sun burn—always worth it. Traveling back to New York was difficult as always, but the view of the city from above made me realize that there’s no place like home. This vacation was everything we needed and more.
