Celebrating Air Max Day With The Air Max 98 "GMT"

Nike declared its first Air Max Day on March 26th of 2014 as the brand celebrated the initial release of the Air Max 1 in 1987. What was once a day that just observed one milestone has now grown to be a highly anticipated national holiday, one that is celebrated through the entire month of March in fact. Each year seems to bring more hype and excitement than the last as Nike pumps up the holiday with both re-releases of the brand's most iconic Air Max silhouettes--dating back at least 20 years--as well as surprising us with completely new Air Max models--in both OG and new colorways.

Nike continues to dig deeper into its roots, resurrecting some of the most iconic Air Maxes to bring an everlasting feeling of nostalgia. Every time I rock a pair of Air Maxes my mom is able to reminisce on the pairs that she once owned, always so surprised that the old sneakers she used to wear back in the day are so popular once again. In fact, she's currently regretting her most recent decision to clean out her closet of her old Air Max Pluses. This year, Nike honors the 20th anniversary of the Air Max 98 silhouette, which originally released in 1998. So far this they've released the sneaker in a few colorways, including the classic Gundam colorway, with some new pairs expected to drop in the upcoming months. I decided to celebrate this Air Max Day with my pair of the Air Max 98 "GMT"--a UK exclusive release.

I love the incredible details of this silhouette. The shoe shares the same cushioning sole as the Air Max 97 while still having some really strong design aspects that make the sneaker all its own. Some standout details are the mesh uppers, the ever present Air Max logo, and the liquid gold current wrapping around each one. My favorite aspects of a sneaker are the minor details, such as the "2018" heel text on this pair. So iconic.

As always, when I'm wearing a really standout pair of kicks, I like to keep the clothing more simple and muted to give the sneakers the most shine.  For this look, I really focused on color matching. The sneaker is predominantly white so I styled them with a plain white t-shirt. When it comes to basic silhouettes I make sure to be keen on design detailing, so I shopped for a shirt that was oversized. I love the side splits on the tee as well--less is more.

I kept the outfit sporty with a pair of Starter breakaway sweats. They also help to bring out the minor black detailing in the shoe. The gold color decoration is pretty standout on its own, so to accessorize I decided to rock my gold name plate chain, again paying attention to minor details within the look.

Accessorizing your Nikes with a pair of swoosh socks always helps to boost your look as well. Logomania is all the craze right now, so its fun to tap into this trend.

I'm eager to see the other colorways that will be rolled out for the Air Max 98 model. I'm absolutely in love with my pair! Sad that it didn't drop in the States but super hyped that I was able to get my hands on them. How will you be celebrating Air Max Day?
